Champion Hurdle
- Trends
Age
- You can confidently rule out any horse aged less than six year olds
this is a race where a single mistake can be very costly and you are
also wise to rule out any horse into double figures when it comes to age
as a turn of foot is very definitely required to win this race.
Recent Form and Experience
- A stat that stands out with around 90% success over the
last 20 years is to back a horse that comes into the race on the back of
a win, as mentioned in the age trend experience counts in a race that is
always run at a fast pace and a clear round is normally required to take
the honours so side with a horse than makes very few jumping mistakes as
there is very little chance to make up lost ground. Another strong trend
is winning form at Cheltenham previously so side with the C in the
formbook over a promising newcomer.
Market Position
- A race that normally comes from the first four in the betting but
plenty of outsiders are placed and occasionally take the crown so if a
big priced horse fits most of the trends bet each/way rather than place
only and the chance of a bumper payday is not out of the question.
Trainers
- Martin Pipe has had less success than he deserves recently in this
race and is a trainer to note.
Other Positives
- Horses that like to settle and finish late usually over 2 1/4 to 2
1/2 miles have a habit of stealing the race up the hill.
PERFECTION: Go for a English
horse who likes to finish late and is aged between 6 and 9 with Cheltenham
form in the book coming off the back of a win, should be in the front four
in the betting, also place a small each way on the longest priced horse
who most fits the trends.
