Foxhunters - Trends

Age

  • A race that has the biggest winning age spread of the festival over the last 25 years or so, but the stats come down on the side of runners aged between seven and nine so narrow down the field considerably with the relative youngsters.

Recent Form and Experience

  • You simply want a horse who has winning form within the last month, the only caveat is you should side with a selection that has "quality" track form in the book, this is no race for nerves!

Market Position

  • This race is dominated by winners from the top two in the market, the prices maybe short but they represent some of the best value at the Festival as normally over the half the field that line up realistically have next to no chance and run for a top 10 finish at best.

Trainers

  • A race that statistically falls to a West Country trainer, so look for a horse trained in the home of hunter chasers.

Other Positives

  • A front running type often takes the race from tape to post.

PERFECTION: A 7, 8 or 9 year old trained in the West country that is 1st or 2nd favourite, comes into the race on the back of a win within the last 2-4 weeks and is a natural front runner, lump on!
