Gold Cup
- Trends
Age
- A race that's won by a horse at the peak of its career so avoid any
younger than seven or older than ten to keep on the right side of over
30 years of stats, with eight or nine years olds the most successful.
Recent Form and Experience
- Select a horse with winning form who has not run for at least five
weeks, stamina is the key to this race and the winner often runs through
beaten horses in the last 1/2 mile, you should also side with horses
with relatively few miles on the clock and statistics show with jumpers
with less than 14 career runs have a big edge. Previous win or place
Festival form is a another must have statistically.
Market Position
- Turning into a "favourites" race over recent years, but a long
priced horse or two is normally in contention come the finish and
each way punters are often rewarded, so a win on the favourite should be
supported with a saver each way on a trend fitting outsider.
Trainers
- A race dominated by Henrietta Knight with Best Mate in recent years
but overall no real trend based on training.
Other Positives
- A winner over 3m+ in the past have a good advantage as do second
season chasers.
PERFECTION: A 8 or 9 year old 2nd
season chaser who comes into the race after a decent break and has been
lightly raced, proven over further than 3 miles and is normally held up in
its races.
