Pertemps Hurdle - Trends

Age

  • Six year olds have an outstanding record, don't be tempted by a five year old as they have a terrible record, though seven year olds shouldn't be ruled out.

Recent Form and Experience

  • Rule out any runner not 1st or 2nd on its last outing and look for a fresh horse so rule out any horse that has run within the last 30 days. Make sure your selection has decent form in big fields as the race normally has its share of trouble in running to avoid.

Market Position

  • The top four in the betting normally fill at least two places at the business end of the race so concentrate on those and with the usual maximum field one or two of these should be decent odds.

Trainers

  • Jonjo O'Neill and Twiston Davies have good records and Irish trained challengers are to be noted especially if the moneys down.

Other Positives

  • The Warwick and Leopardstown qualifiers have the best record.

PERFECTION: A six or seven year old, trained in Ireland or by O'Neill or T-Davies, fancied in the betting with decent form in a big field, qualified at Leopardstown or Warwick and coming into the race after a decent break.
